02 Feb 5 Spring Home Repairs That Save You Money
Listen, we all want to save a little money. That’s a no brainer. Although weather is still cold, warmer weather is fast approaching, and spring will be here before we know it. With the coming onset of spring, comes spring cleaning, and with that, home maintenance projects. Ideally, homeowners should check their home and perform routine maintenance twice a year. At the beginning of spring before the heavy rain, and again at the start of fall. Making sure that you are on top of your home maintenance will save you money on costly repairs down the road.
Clean out your gutters
If you failed to clean your gutters at the end of fall last year, this should be at the top of your list. Hiring someone to come and clean out your gutters is an inexpensive job, but will save you the hassle of broken and clogged gutters. The water damage from neglected gutters is what will end up costing you a pretty penny and hurting your home.
Clean out vents
Your heater has been working hard for the past few months, filtering warm air throughout your home all day long. This is the time of year to get your vent cleaned, filters switched out, and have your HVAC serviced to ensure that it is working properly and providing you with cool air once the temperature picks up.
Check your roof
Before spring showers make an appearance, you should have your roof checked for leaks and broken shingles. It’s inexpensive to have a few broken shingles replaced, but it’s a costly project to repair water damage from a leaky roof. It’s smart to do this routine maintenance, and make sure you know what condition your roof is in.
Check your home appliances
Whilst doing the rest of your spring cleaning, take some time to check all of your home appliances. Pull out the hoses of your washing machine, to make sure that nothing is clogged in them. Perform any necessary maintenance on your dryer, water heater, and dishwasher, as well.
Improve your home security
Did you know that you can get a discount on your homeowners insurance for things like replacing smoke alarm batteries regularly, and having home security systems in place? Check with your insurance company on what available discounts they have, and what the qualifications are. It does you no harm to update and upgrade these things, so why not?
